Athens: Make your own Leather Sandals Workshop

1.Make your own Leather Sandals Workshop

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 105 reviews · 3 hours · from $106Our pick

Spend three hours in Marianna and Dimitris’s female-owned Athens Riviera workshop, choosing a sandal design and leather colors, then helping make a custom-fitted pair by hand. You’ll learn the steps from measuring your feet to cutting and assembling the sandals, with coffee, tea or juice and Greek cookies to start. Koropi station pickup is available by request.

“A really unique experience!! Outside of the city, Marianna took excellent care to show all the steps and work hands-on with me to make a really cool sandal design. While she has a TON of options you can select from, she was also very encouraging with me to go slightly off script and make my own design!”

Athens: Create Your Own Mosaic 3h Private Art Class

3.Create Your Own Mosaic 3h Private Art Class

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 62 reviews · 3 hours (approx.) · from $96

At a private three-hour class in central Athens, you’ll hear about mosaic art, choose a pattern and colors, then build your own piece with guidance from instructors such as Marina and Zoe. The class is hands-on and suited to beginners. Plan ahead: your mosaic needs about 24 hours to set, and the studio is on the fourth floor of a mall near Ermou Street.

“This was such a fun activity to do, and a little different than the usual museums and sites in Athens. Marina was absolutely wonderful, explaining the history, guiding me through the process, and was so interesting to talk to while working on the mosaic. This was such a fun activity, and I have a beautiful souvenir from it to remember my time. Definitely sign up for this, and try to do it earlier in your trip so your mosaic has time to dry.”

Create and paint your own ceramic piece in a workshop in Athens

4.Create and paint your own ceramic piece in a workshop in Athens

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 58 reviews · 2 hours (approx.) · from $60Best value

At Tales in Tiles Experience Store in Athens, a ceramist guides you through hand-building a mug, bowl, vase, or pot, then painting it with clay colors. The two-hour workshop welcomes beginners and includes materials, iced tea, and cookies. Your piece needs at least four weeks for glazing and firing; collect it later or arrange shipping at extra cost.

“We did this for our son who is really good at art. As it turns out we all really enjoyed ourselves. They had options to help younger kids make their own ceramic creation well. I was amazed how much you could accomplish in 2 hours. I wish we could have seen what the final product looked like prior to leaving, but we understand that the clay needs to dry to go in the kiln. We paid to have them shipped home. The shipping is not terribly expensive so not a big deal.”
